Volunteer of The Month Laura Gerald, USA, Amarillo, Texas
You might not guess it from her sweet smile, but Laura (shown center) has the heart of a lion. Her case involves three siblings that have had very turbulent lives. All three have been placed with a local foster, and Laura has taken advantage of this proximity to be a constant presence in their lives. She takes time to have lunch with them in the school cafeteria, meet with them at foster placement and monitor the court-ordered visitation with bio mom. Laura has opened and maintained clear lines of communication with teachers, therapists, attorneys, teachers- everyone who has an impact on her kiddos is on Laura’s radar. The children adore her- easily witnessed when they run to greet her each time. One of the siblings has ongoing physical needs, and Laura has fiercely advocated for the best treatment available. She has traveled to Shriner Hospital to sit bedside and make the stay less frightening. In the sometimes overwhelming jungle that the foster system can be, Laura has proven herself to be the queen!
From Supervisor Jona (left) and Light of Hope Auxiliary Sharon (right), as well as the entire CASA program, thank you, Laura, for helping create a bright future for a sweet, deserving family!CLICK HERE TO HELP
